My Coat That's Actually McCall's 5718

I finally finished McCall's 5718. In the previous posts, I referred to this as a Butterick pattern when it clearly says M5718. I don't know what I was thinking. I just had to laugh out loud when I looked at my blog. But here is my review of this coat. Pattern Description: Loose-fitting lined jacket or coat has yoke, stand or turned down collar, full-length raglan like sleeves, side front seams w/pockets, buttons & buttonhole closures. The sleeves for View C have cuffs and the pattern calls for multiple rows of topstitching which I did not do. (still may do it though) Pattern Sizing: 18-24 I made the 18
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Originally, I was going to make the jacket but I decided to do the coat version. I like the collar and the sleeves.
Fabric Used: I'm not sure what it's called. But I remember buying it on one of our shopping excursions in Atlanta a few years ago.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I might make the jacket version of this. I have so many patterns I want to try out. Conclusion: I look forward to wearing this coat for our upcoming Spring weather. Tomorrow's forecast is 61 so I may not need to wear it. LOL!!
I have to say that I haven't purchased any new fabric so far this year, except for linings, (which doesn't count in my book). I am sewing from fabrics in my collection. This was one of my goals to not buy any until June. I've been tempted, of course. My daughter frequently sends swatch pictures from the various fabric sites along with photos from Nordstroms or Bloomingdales ,of what the fabric could be made into. So for now, I'm content to not buy anything. She has gifted fabrics to me (the latest just last week)! Now if i can just make good on No. 5 of the goal list.

Weekend Update

Here's what I managed to make over the weekend. OOP Butterick 4232 View C. The fabric is from Gail K's in Atlanta that was purchased over a year ago on one of my trips to visit my daughter. It was an easy to sew project.
It is semi-fitted, pullover, above hip top has long sleeves and stitched hems, flounce on the sleeves and back & front. You can't tell on the fabric print that the front flounce comes across. I think it's cute though. This is one of my replacement items for my wardrobe. I'll wear this with a cami underneath and slacks or a skirt. It's been great weather here the past few days with tomorrow (or today, it's after midnight now) forecasted to go as high as 64 degrees. YAY!! That is very unusual for northern Illinois in February! But we will take what we can get! Have a great sewing day!

I picked up these two McCalls patterns over the weekend. 5625 & 5631. Can't wait to make them!

My Coat-A Work In Progress

(Updated Wednesday, April 23rd. Here is the picture I wanted to post previously. It was the Blogger, my digital camera worked fine. Last night I turned the lining, pressed the facings and have to hem, add buttonholes and buttons, will post the completed project tomorrow.)

Well Blogger wouldn't let me post a picture at this time. I just wanted to show what point I was at in the construction of the coat. I know I should be sewing spring/summer items, but I wanted to go ahead and work on this coat as it was already cut and staring me down everytime I came to my sewing area! LOL! It's McCalls 5060 View D, out of a black/white wool brocade type of fabric that I purchased at Gail K's in Atlanta last year. I am almost done because I attached the lining to the coat. Sorry no pictures at this time. So I'll post the completed coat soon.
Meanwhile, I also have cut out Simplicity 2938, the dress in a black/white/pink/gray geometric print from Fabric Mart, and the jacket in a solid pink gabardine. The rest of the gabardine I cut out New Look 6788 View D, the coat. It'll be lightweight and something we wear in the upcoming a/c season. I'll be choosing another dress to coordinate with this. So that's it for now.

SWAP

I have been thinking of doing a SWAP (Sewing With A Plan) using Simplicity 4273. I have plenty of fabric in my stash to go to. The whole concept of all the pieces coordinating is why everytime I read about another SWAP starting up on a sewing board, I always consider it. I'll probably be a sideline participant though. I can set up a similar timeline and be accountable to myself LOL. I'd also do other projects in between.

My mind isn't made up just yet, but I'm leaning towards doing this more and more. I'll keep you posted!!

Another Finished Project

I finished this jacket last night. I wanted to make sure it's ready for whenever cool weather shows up. This is Butterick 4463, ViewD (the white jacket on the pattern pic). It's made from a stretch poplin that I purchased from Fashion Fabrics Club last year. Kind of an animal print. It's partially lined and will be great to wear while running errands, etc. It has the tie belt which is optional.

Next project to show will be a two-piece shirt & pants set made in a silk duponi, also from Fashion Fabrics. I hope to have that completed for tomorrow's post.
