I have received several sewing related requests just in the past month! And believe it or not, I'm thinking about taking on the projects. One is a wedding! I haven't officially accepted because I really am not sure I want to be involved with the fabric choices, fittings and all that goes with this type of sewing project. The other requests seem fairly simple. I will keep you posted on what I decide.
But last week, my daughters and I went to a fashion show at a Chicago high school, Whitney Young. None of my pictures came out :( But I have to say that the students who participated presented beautiful outfits! The fit was excellent from our vantage. (We were all the way in the top row!) Not all items would I consider wearing but there were lots of pieces that could be worn by the average person. They used imagination to design garments from items other than fabric! It was a very nice show and I'm glad to see so many young people participating in sewing!

I completed OOP V7725 View A in an animal print I've had for several years from Fashion Fabric Club. I've made this pattern a few times. It's easy to sew as the pattern states, Very Easy, Very Vogue. The top is sort of loose-fitting, with collar and button closure. I made covered buttons though. And the hem on the sleeves and bottom is top-stitched. Easy Easy!
My next project will be a jacket and dress for Mother's Day.

The Weekend

Not a lot of sewing going on here over the weekend, except to finish hemming and making button closures for my last top from a few days ago. I hung out with my daughters and granddaughter.
We had a nice day on Saturday beginning with breakfast at a new spot in the Hyde Park or Bronzeville area of Chicago. Ms Biscuit. The food was good. We just had to try the biscuits since that's the name of the restaurant. After breakfast, we headed to Lincoln Park for my newphew's birthday party! Pump it Up, one of those inflatable places for kids birthday parties where parents can sit back and watch the kids run run run, slide down or bounce around and just have a ball without worrying if they'll injure themselves. This was my first time inside of one of these places and they had parties booked back to back! So when our party moved over into the area where the food is served, another group began their bounce around time.
When we left the party, we drove over to Starfruit and sat down for a treat! Yummy! Now for a little shopping! Akira shoes for women on North Avenue, had so many cute styles. Of course my size wasn't available for the pair I wanted! We were going to go up to North Clark street, but decided to save that excursion for another day. Instead we headed into downtown Chicago to stop at one of the Garrett Popcorn shops for their great tasting cheese and caramel popcorn! Our last stop on Roosevelt Road for polish sausages with grilled onions and fries on the side! We didn't bother to pull the camera out for the last few stops. hmmm All in all it was a great day and our weather was in the 70s!! Yay!

I Purchased A Couple of New Patterns

These have been out for several months I think. I picked up these two Buttericks at Joann's the other day. I've wanted them both for awhile and just kept putting it off. So I gave in. I like the jackets for both B5332 & B5333. I can't wait to make them up. I already have the fabrics I want to use for both!

Another Version of S4412 Almost Done!

This is another version of Simplicity 4412 View B, in a poly print from my fabric collection. It is finished except for the hems and buttonholes. I like the gathered elastic detail on the sleeves but I'm not sure I'll like it on me. I'm going to wear this with a skirt and there are lots of color options in the print to choose from. Until next time, happy sewing!

Jacket and Skirt Project Complete!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holiday weekend!

I've finally found the time to post a few pictures of my last two projects. The top from Simplicity 4412 has six views for various jacket styles. For this version I used view D that has tie ends for the collar. Simple princess seams, four-button closure and the sleeves are long of course and I just machine stithced the hem. The skirt is Simplicity 5914 also has several versions and lengths. View A was the choice from this pattern. I wanted a long skirt. The pattern has two main pieces for front & back, side front and back, plus the facings. This skirt has a side zipper inserted. The fabric is from Fabric Mart, purchased several months ago. I will probably make this skirt again in a short version.

And finally, here is a picture of me wearing the McCalls 5597 (my husband peeking over my shoulder). Shhh! I think I may have gained a pound or two since this suit was complete! OH NO!! Well, I will have to take care of that before I wear it again!
