Work!

It has been SO BUSY at work this week! You know (or maybe not), that I am the secretary for my church. This year, we are celebrating our 50th year! The big celebration is the weekend of July 19 & 20. So, you know...
But what I do to relax and unwind is sew, cut or sit and read in my sewing area! Even when I worked in corporate and after a super, crazy week, I would come home and sew up a storm on a Friday night. Back then I made lots of clothing for my daughters and for me. I even made things for other people! LOL
This week I haven't sewn anything so far. But I did a few things in my sewing area. I managed to cut out another suit that's from an old Butterick pattern. This suit doesn't require a lining, but I think I'm going to add one. I haven't cut the white fabric yet for pants because I'm not sure if I want it to be pants or capris. I'll decide soon.

More Shopping & Saturday Night Sewing

Another entry for the stash contest. Saturday afternoon, we'd gone out shopping again and in the evening I was not certain that I would do anything in my sewing area. But I went downstairs anyway and looked at my stack of fabrics for the stash reduction. I've had this linen type fabric with sequined embellishments for over a year. Chose an easy pattern, S4528, View D. Cut out and sewn on Saturday night, worn on Sunday morning!

These are my latest fabric purchases from Saturday afternoon. Yeah I know! LOL! This was at the Joann's in Schereville, IN. The first picture is of two pieces of silk I found in the home dec sale section. They're only 27 inches in width. So I visualized a simple jacket out of the top piece and a simple top out of the bottom piece and purchased accordingly. The sales lady was very helpful as she rolled out the fabric while I figured that a sleeve would be here, then another one, etc..

These three are other fabrics I liked. The turquoise/aqua print will be a top, the pink will probably be a two-piece simple suit, and the animal print which is a stretch knit will be a top. There you have it!

So Milli & I have decided that this is it for our summer fabric purchases! She bought fabric as well so I didn't do this all by myself, LOL! She doesn't have a sewing blog just yet, but maybe soon. She'll be sewing for a cruise that she and her husband are going on at the end of July. My sewing goals for this week is to make a skirt (already cut), a pair of white slacks, make the lining for a chiffon print skirt and perhaps make a top to go with the skirt.

Latest Fabric Purchase!

Ok, so I'm in the Stash Reduction contest on PR, right! So why did my daughter and I feel we just had to go to our favorite Joann Fabrics to see what delights we'd find in the red tag clearance section? HUH!!! LOL! Well, I only bought four pieces and I think she may have five! I also picked up these two patterns! Simplicity is 2/$3 this week! That was yesterday.

So today we went to another one that we hardly ever visit, just to see. They had lots of fabric but nothing that caught our eye. I did pick up S3535 which I saw on Faye's site. Camillia (aka Milli) did not buy anything. That was the cheapest Joann's trip we've ever been on! LOL We have one more to check out. And then that's it for this week!

Fabric Diet! Another fabric store that we have in our area is Vogue Fabrics, Chicago's Premier Fabric Store. I haven't shopped there for over a year, on purpose! It's not too far from my home, maybe 20-25 minutes depending on traffic. But I always find something. Vogue has fabrics to fit any budget. I've been thinking about going to see what's new, or just to look (yeah right!). Now Milli was there maybe early last week. She bought only two pieces. Good for her! But if I go over there, I will really be off my so-called diet! I know this doesn't make any sense because I just bought four pieces from Joann's. But, I need something for next month when I go to Texas! So to me, staying away from Vogue is kind of like having a scoop of plain vanilla ice cream and leaving off the sprinkles, whipped cream, nuts, and chocolate syrup, if you know what I mean. Hmmm!! If I stay away, we'll see!

Happy Father's Day & My Blog Anniversary

It has been a year since I started my blog! I remember deciding to go for it and see how long I'd keep it up! LOL! I didn't think about it until the last minute that it was about a year and I had to look up the date! I wish I could post more often. But maybe in this upcoming year! We'll see. I'm glad I came across Erica B's site which led me to so many other inspiring sewing blogs and the great ladies who share their work! I love to see what everybody is creating in their sewing rooms. It's exciting and although I've never met any of you ladies in person, it seems like we kind of know each other because we share the same enthusiasm for sewing, fabrics & patterns! HAHAHAHA!

Although I lost my dad just over a year ago, my daughter and I have planned the day for my husband & son-in-law. I miss my father very much. If you have your dad, call him or even better, go see him if you can.
Happy Father's Day!

Update On The Stash Contest

The stash contest is well underway, but I've only managed two pieces so far! Two whole weeks have gone by this month! Both of these projects were easy to sew. The horizontal stripe fabric came from Fashion Fabrics Club last year. It's a rayon fabric and when I purchased it, I had no idea what I'd make out of it. I used 1 1/2 yards for this top, NL6413 which is now an OOP. There is still enough left to make something else, but of course I don't know when or what that'll be! LOL The skirt is M5631 View B out of a 100% cotton piece which was given to me by someone who knows my daughter. She doesn't even remember who it was! I used up 3 1/2 yards for the skirt. Now both of these projects will have to be posted on PR. Too sleepy to do that now...
That leaves six weeks, well five for me because I plan to go to Texas in July for a few days and when I return, I'll be babysitting! No sewing can be done while the grandbaby is around! LOL. My next project is cut and ready to sew! Yay!

What I've Been Doing!

The first is a two-piece
B5169 which is actually further along than what's shown in the photo. It's in a champaign silky like fabric that I picked up in Atlanta back in March.

I apologize for the wrinkles on the yellow outfit. It's an embroidered linen fabric with clear sequins throughout. I wore it Sunday. It's very comfortable. The jacket is V8491 and the skirt is a simple Vogue pattern with an elasticized waist. This could have qualified for the PR Stash Reduction contest, but I needed a yellow outfit for Ladies Day at church before June 1st. AND I ended up not even wearing this for that program! HAHAHA!

Now speaking of the stash reduction contest, this is my fabric that I pulled out to work on between June 1st and July 31st! There are two other pieces that are cut that I did not photo. This is an ambitious stack! And as I straigtened it out to take a picture, I thought who am I kidding! LOL But I am still forging ahead with this because it is so necessary and will be fun just to see what I can accomplish! So the pieces I mentioned not pictured, I hope to finish before this weekend will count for 5 yards. It's a skirt and a top! I'll keep you posted...
